Type: Furniture Design  Location: Southport QLD  Client: Gold Coast City Council

In collaboration with UAP we were engaged by Gold Coast City Council to produce a Furniture and Street Embellishments Masterplan for Gold Coast Chinatown and to custom design the furniture and embellishments. The designs draw inspiration from Chinese mythology and the local context. The winding rivers, linear urban flow, and tidal patterns of the Gold Coast were a metaphor for the serpentine form of the dragon- disappearing and reappearing throughout the precinct.

The two largest pieces - the contour seats- are a response to the urban landscape design of the Chinatown streetscape. The seats are custom designed to fit within the edge of two planting areas, defining gathering areas within the precinct.

Materials: Granite, timber, brass, gold mosaic.
