Byron Bay Rail Corridor Park

Byron Railway Corridor Park is the final piece of Byron Bay’s upgraded Railway Precinct, sitting alongside Railway Park and the Byron Bay Bus Interchange.

Train services ceased on this section of line in 2004. Since that time the corridor had been a disused space immediately adjacent to the town centre- a space that the community was fenced out of and a space that complicated and severed potentially important cross town connections. The project reconnects the community with this place and its history.

It is a quiet space facilitating calm use.

Client testimonial:

“For Council, the rail corridor project needed to tick a lot of boxes.  It needed to transform a polluted and overgrown site into a vibrant space and link the CBD to key areas on the town’s outskirts. It needed to pay homage to the town’s industrial past. It needed to encourage pedestrians and cycling. It needed to live up to high community expectations.

Simple!

The rail corridor is now a beautiful, functional public space with shade, grass, native gardens, seating and pathways.

This is a park that has been thoughtfully and beautifully designed for the community.

Brief achieved!”
