The Norries Head whale watching deck was a project undertaken with the Cabarita community and Tweed Shire Council.
The deck provides the duel function of providing a viewing platform and mitigating significant existing erosion and inevitable future erosion. The first stage of the construction is predominantly positioned over the disturbed zone. The second stage will extend and kink the deck to the south, opening the view to Cape Byron and marrying the deck back to existing levels.
The key goal of the design was to provide a viewing platform and seating without damaging the physical and visual experience of the headland. The deck terraces and bends with the topography of the headland in a way that ensures that the structure does not encroach on views.
