Type: Public Art Location: Coomera, QLD Client: Gold Coast City Council
River Catch was commissioned by Gold City Council in 2013 for the Upper Coomera Community Hub which incorporated a library, aquatic centre and community facilities.
The Coomera River flows from the Lamington Plateau to the Broadwater. It is a life source for the surrounding land. River Catch is about landscape and peoples connection to place. It connects local elements - earth and water and memories of river association. The belly of a fish swells from the building – its handmade materiality closely connected to, and expressive of, its place. Clay for surface colouring is sourced from the river bank and the site. Glazing is used to evoke shimmer and shine, the memory of a river catch.
